The Best Quick Tripod Head
For situations where you need to be able to track a subject or quickly move from subject to subject a ball head is the way to go. Manfrotto makes some really good gear at very reasonable prices and the 488RC4 ball head is no exception. With solid aluminum construction it is very sturdy and able to support point and shoots, SLRs, and all the way up to medium format cameras. One of the biggest complaints of tripod heads is there inability to maintain position with a SLR and a large lens attached, but with the 488RC4 this is not a problem.
The 488RC4 comes with the 410PL quick release plate, which is a very nice quick release, because it has a safety catch and is rock solid. Other features are two levels, a ratchet feature to lock on for excellent 360 degree panning, and vertical slots for easily switching between landscape and portrait.
This ball head is a bit heavy, but comes with the territory when you purchase a solid, well built head. For the price, durability, and functionality the 488RC4 is a really good tripod head and the best quick tripod head, great for sports.
